Frequently Asked Questions

General

Unfortunately we are not able to sponsor your event or organisation. Adelaide Fringe is a not-for profit incorporated organisation that operates as an umbrella organisation for artists.

As an open-access festival, independent artists pay a fee to be registered in the Fringe and use their own funds to stage their productions and/or run their venues. Although Adelaide Fringe Inc. retains a small servicing and booking fee, the majority of the ticket sales income goes directly back to the artists.

The full 2019 Adelaide Fringe Guide will be released in late December. After this date you can browse or download a copy of the guide on our website.

All job vacancies will be advertised on the jobs section on our website here.

Subscribe to our mailing list so you can be alerted when a new job is posted.

If you would like to pursue hospitality work for the fringe you will need to contact venues directly to see if they have any vacancies.

Adelaide Fringe is an umbrella organisation and as such, we don’t run individual venues. We recommend contacting the venue directly to enquire about lost property. Venue contact information can be found on our website by using the venue search option.

2019: 15 Feb – 17 March

2020: 14 Feb – 15 March

2021: 12 Feb – 14 March

If you need to sign-up for HalfTIX you can do that through the ‘MyFringe’ section of the site – you can find the button for it on the top-right of the page. Once you’re in there just click on ‘Update Details & Password’ to edit your email preferences or click here to be taken to the right page. If you’ve already signed up and you don’t get your email at 11.45am here are some things to check:
Have you looked in your spam folder, trash or under the ‘Promotions’ tab if you’re using Gmail?
Try adding ‘info@adelaidefringe.com.au’ to your address book or list of ‘safe senders’ so we don’t get caught in your spam filter.
There are some known rare issues with ISPs filtering bulk emails so if you are not getting your HalfTIX emails try changing your email address.
And finally remember you can always search the full list of HalfTIX shows on the website at 12pm each day

Unfortunately, due to high postage costs and resources, we are unable to post Fringe Guides.

The full Adelaide Fringe guide will be available online from late December 2019. You can also pick up a copy at any of our Box Offices, BankSA outlets and in shops and cafes around town.

Adelaide Fringe is an open access arts festival and as such we don’t run our own venues and therefore don’t coordinate any stalls for catering or goods for sale.

Venues make their own arrangements for stalls and catering and we therefore recommend contacting them directly.

Unfortunately we are not able to offer tickets or merchandise to organisations or events as we are a not-for profit incorporated organisation that operates as an umbrella organisation for artists. We do not own any of the tickets, run any of the ticketed shows or run the venues within the Fringe.

As an open-access festival, independent artists pay a fee to be registered in the Fringe and use their own funds to stage their productions and/or run their venues. Although Adelaide Fringe Inc. retains a small servicing and booking fee, the majority of the ticket sales income goes directly back to the artists.

We are therefore unable to give away artists’ tickets or merchandise.

Adelaide Fringe receives numerous enquiries from students, which unfortunately we are unable to answer individually. Please use this website for reference - start by finding out more about us here.

Adelaide Fringe employs a small team of staff who work year round in administration, marketing, corporate partnerships, programming, production and artist services. As we gear up for Adelaide Fringe each year our team grows and a number of employment opportunities become available, details of which can be found here.

Adelaide Fringe endeavours to make it as easy as possible for you to stay in the loop.

Adelaide Fringe takes place in more than 400 venues across Adelaide’s CBD and suburbs, as well as extending to the regional centre of Port Augusta for Desert Fringe, Fringe in Mount Gambier, Fringe in Whyalla and Kangaroo Island Fringe. Venues are not run or operated by Adelaide Fringe. Instead the Fringe employs a venue coordinator to assist venues in gaining the most they can out of being part of the Adelaide Fringe program.

It’s probably just a glitch and we’ll have everything back up and running very soon. In the meantime, please call FringeTIX® on 1300 621 255 who may be able to assist with your booking and/or enquiry. To assist us in identifying and resolving problems please email buzz@adelaidefringe.com.au with the details of the problem you experienced – including what make and model your mobile device is, what software version you are running, what you were doing at the time of the problem, and any screenshots you were able to capture.

My session timed out, but I need to buy lots of tickets – help!
Your session will time out after 60 minutes so you may need to book your tickets in a couple of transactions. We suggest you use the Fringe Favourites tool to save a short list of your tickets while you are finding the shows you want, and then add them to your cart at the end. I entered my payment details and nothing happened, how do I know if I’ve been charged or my tickets have been booked?
Please call FringeTIX® on 1300 621 255 as soon as you can and we will check if your payment has been processed and your tickets booked. Please don’t attempt to purchase again, as it may result in a double charge to your credit card.

What does allocation exhausted mean?
Allocation exhausted means the show has sold out, or that the ticket type you have selected is no longer available. Must have been a popular choice! Don’t worry there are plenty of others for you to see.

What’s the best way to search for a show?
Once we are on sale, use our search functions on the website to narrow down the program. You can search by time, date, genre, & venue and price type, or even search for what you're in the mood to see! You can also browse through our.physical Fringe Guide.

There are so many shows, can you recommend some?
Adelaide Fringe is a non-curated, open-access festival which means that anyone can participate and put on a show! In order to uphold our open-access nature, we must represent all shows equally, and so we cannot recommend specific shows over others.

We do have a few suggestions to help you choose the perfect show for you:

  • Create a Fringe Favourites list right here on our website and create a MyFringe login to access them on any device.
  • Check out Unfold Fringe in Rundle Mall activities and promotions.
  • Look out for critics' reviews in The Advertiser.
  • Ask your friends and family for suggestions on what they have seen (and if you see something you like, please shout about it)! Word of mouth is a great tool to assist audiences and performers alike.
  • Take a punt! Adelaide Fringe is all about experiencing something new!

From the moment that the transaction is completed, all Fringe tickets are non-refundable and non-exchangeable. You are required to accept this term and condition when you purchase tickets. You will be unable to purchase tickets unless you agree to this term.

However, if an event has been cancelled or the particulars of an event have changed, which results in you being unable to attend, you are entitled to a refund or exchange.

Adelaide Fringe adheres to the Live Performance Australia Ticketing Code of Practice, which you can read here.

By Post
EarlyTIX is an online only presale and all tickets will be posted until our Box Offices open in late November.

In 2019, we are introducing e-ticketing! If you select e-tickteting, you will be able to display your tickets on your mobile phone to venue door staff, for some venues there will be no need to collect your tickets in advance. How great is that!?

Save time on the day of your performance and collect your tickets in advance from one of our Box Offices when they open in December.

Collect at the Venue
If your show is on at The Garden of Unearthly Delights, Gluttony or the Royal Croquet Club then you can collect your tickets from the venue any time that the venue’s Box Office is open.

If your show is on at any other venue then you can collect them from the venues Box Office within 60 minutes of the show start time.

What is an E-ticket?

An e-ticket (electronic ticket) is the digital equivalent of a paper ticket and a more efficient method of ticket entry. A QR code will be displayed in your order confirmation which will be emailed to you after you purchased your tickets. Some venues will be scanning your QR code and other venues will continue to mark you off a door list or issue you with a raffle-style ticket once you get to the venue. Basically, your email will suffice as your ticket and you won't need to queue for collection!

Do I have to e-ticket?

Nope! You can continue to Fringe as you always have and collect your tickets at a Box Office or Self-Collection Point, or have them posted directly to you.

How do I get an e-ticket?

You e-ticket will be sent to your email after the purchase is finalised. If you aren't able to display your ticket on your mobile device, then you will need to collect a ticket in advance of the performance from the venue box office or a FringeTIX outlet.

Will e-ticketing be run differently at different venues?

For events performing at Gluttony, The RCC Fringe, The Garden of Unearthly Delights, The National Wine Centre and Noel Lothian Hall, your QR code will be scanned at the entrance to the performance space.

For all other venues, please visit the venue box office and show your QR code for admittance.

What if I can’t access the emailed e-ticket, is there a database that my details will be on to have a new ticket sent to a different email account?

You can access your QR code by logging into your MyFringe account and finding your QR code in the My Orders section of your account. You can also call us on 1300 621 255 and we can resend your email.

Am I able to transfer my e-ticket to a friend if I choose not to attend? If so, how would I give/ transfer my ticket to my friend?

You can forward your e-ticket on but keep in mind if you have purchased multiple tickets in one transaction the QR code will allow anyone with the QR code entry to all shows in the transaction. You can also head to a box office and get a hard copy to pass on.

Will I need any form of identification with the e-ticket?

It is handy to carry your ID on you at all times. Venues will ask to sight your applicable form of ID if you have purchased a concession ticket and some venues will need to sight ID for their Liquor Licence requirements.

How fast is the transaction? How close to a show's start time can I book?

The transaction is instant. You can book up until the show starts at selected venues. This means that you can be standing inside Gluttony, The RCC Fringe or Garden of Unearthly Delights and buy a ticket without having to visit a box office!

Do you need to have a smartphone or can I use any device that has access to my emails?

You can use any device that has access to your email/screenshot of your order confirmation so that we can sight the booking information or QR code. If you do not have a smartphone, we suggest you collect your tickets in advance from the venue box office or FringeTIX outlet.

What if I delete my email or the email doesn't arrive?

Always check your junk folder if you don't think you have received an email from us! If the email doesn't arrive or you accidentally delete your email, never fear! You can access your QR code by logging into your MyFringe account and finding your QR code in the My Orders section of your account. You can also call us on 1300 621 255 and we can resend your email.

Can I use Apple Wallet to store my tickets?

Not yet! But we are working on it for future Fringes!

A quick way to access your QR code is to take a screenshot and save it in your notes.

What if the internet is down at the venue?

Depending on the scanners or phones being used, Wifi shouldn't affect the scanning ability of the phone. You can also take a screenshot of your QR code before the show and save it to your photos or notes.

As a backup, we download all purchased QR codes into the system 1 hour before the show and these can be accessed without internet access. Anyone buying tickets within that hour can be verified by calling 1300 621 255 and speaking to a FringeTIX staff member, or by downloading a door list via a computer or laptop.

How can I check the age suitability of a show so that I can take my children?

We will do our best to provide you with warnings about show content and age suitability, where the artist or presenter has passed that information onto us. Artists self-rate their shows, and as we are an open access festival, we can’t guarantee the content and suitability. Please use your discretion when determining suitability for your child, as there will be no exchanges or refunds on tickets purchased.

Audience Suitability Ratings
G - Suitable for all ages
PG - Parental guidance recommended

Companion Card

Companion Card holders are entitled to concession priced tickets and a complimentary ticket for their companion. Adelaide Fringe is delighted that Companion Card tickets are available for all events in the 2018 Adelaide Fringe.

Most Adelaide Fringe events do not have allocated seating and therefore are General Admission.

Several venues have allocated seating:

Royalty Theatre

The Arts Theatre

Thebarton Theatre

Star Theatres

If your event is at an Allocated Seating venue, the system will auto generate the next best available seat for you.

Don't want to sit in the seat the system is generating you? Give us a call and we will do our best to give the seat you are after!

The stalls are 'ground level' seating – the bottom tier of an auditorium, closest to the stage and the action!
